Expires 2:15 AM EDT on June 18, 2013

... Heat wave continues across interior Alaska...

Temperatures have reached into the 80s and lower 90s across
interior Alaska again today. These very hot conditions are
expected to continue through Friday.

The heat wave is being caused by a blocking high pressure system
in the upper atmosphere that will remain parked over interior
Alaska through Thursday. The high pressure will then slowly recede
east starting on Friday as a series of weak weather systems move
north across Alaska. This will bring slightly cooler temperatures
and a chance of thunderstorms to the interior Friday through the
weekend.

Some high temperatures so far today around the interior are:

McGrath... ... ... ... ..93
ft Wainwright... ... ..88
Fairbanks... ... ... ... 86
Livengood... ... ... ... 86
Nenana... ... ... ... ... 85
