High Surf Advisory

Statement as of 9:58 PM PST on February 19, 2017

Expires 7:00 PM EST on February 21, 2017


... High surf advisory remains in effect until 4 PM PST Tuesday...

* surf... high surf of 10 to 15 feet will diminish some into Monday
morning. High surf of around 9 to 12 feet will continue through
Tuesday afternoon. High surf is expected to go up slightly by
Tuesday night into Wednesday. The high surf advisory will likely
need to be extended from Tuesday afternoon.

* Impacts... large waves and strong rip currents will increase
the risk of ocean drowning for swimmers and surfers. Large
breaking waves can cause injury... wash people off beaches and
rocks... and capsize small boats nearshore.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area... producing localized beach erosion and
dangerous swimming conditions.

Wind Advisory

... Wind Advisory now in effect from 2 am Monday to 6 am PST
Tuesday...

* winds... south to southeast winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 40
mph.

* Impacts... the combination of gusty winds and very wet soils
will result in an increased threat of downed trees.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

When driving, use extra caution. Be prepared for sudden gusty
cross winds.





Small Craft Advisory, Gale Watch

... Gale watch in effect from Monday afternoon through Monday
evening...

The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard has issued a
Small Craft Advisory... which is in effect until 4 PM PST Monday.
A gale watch has also been issued. This gale watch is in effect
from Monday afternoon through Monday evening.

* Winds... south winds 15 to 25 kt with gusts to 35 kt are
possible when winds are strongest.

* Seas... combined seas of 10 to 13 feet with periods around 15
seconds are possible when waves are largest.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Small Craft Advisory means that hazardous sea conditions will
exist for small craft. Inexperienced mariners... especially those
operating smaller vessels should avoid navigating in these
conditions.

A gale watch is issued when hazardous gale force winds of 34 to
47 knots are probable in the near future, but the specific timing
and/or location is still uncertain. It is intended to provide
additional lead time for mariners who may wish to consider
altering their plans.
