Winter Storm Warning

... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 am PST
Saturday...

* snow levels... around 5000 feet tonight... then rising to 5500 to
6000 feet by mid Friday morning.

* Timing... tonight through Friday night.

* Snow accumulations... above 6000 feet... around 18 inches to 2
feet with local 3 feet possible. 5500 to 6000 feet... 1 to 2
feet. 5000 to 5500 feet... 5 to 10 inches. 4500 to 5000 feet...
trace to 3 inches.

* Winds... southwest to west 20 to 35 mph with local gusts over 50
mph tonight. Winds 25 to 40 mph with gusts to 60 mph and local
gusts over 65 mph Friday and Friday night.

* Visibility... near zero at times in snow... blowing snow and fog.

* Impacts... travel will be dangerous at times over the mountains
due to snow covered roads... strong winds and low visibility.
Dangerous cross winds expected for high profile vehicles.
Winds may cause structural damage and knock down trees and
power lines.

* Outlook... a warmer storm will bring more rain than snow
Sunday... but the snow level will lower on Monday down to 4000
feet bringing more heavy snow.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather
conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of
snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in
an emergency. If you must travel... keep an extra flashlight...
food... and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

through Friday evening...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of Southern California... southwest California and
southwests California... including the following areas... in
Southern California... San Bernardino and Riverside County
valleys-the inland Empire. In southwest California... Orange
County coastal areas... Orange County inland areas... San
Bernardino County mountains... San Diego County coastal areas...
   San Diego County mountains... San Diego County valleys... San
Gorgonio Pass near Banning and Santa Ana Mountains and
foothills. In southwests California... Riverside County
mountains.

* From 7 am PST Friday through Friday evening

* heavy showers and scattered thunderstorms will likely occur
during the mid-morning hours Friday through early Friday
evening... with possible rainfall rates at or exceeding 1 inch
per hour. This will increase the chances for flash flooding.
Also... heavy rains over recent burn scars could result in debris
flows and mudslides.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.

Friday...
... Gale Warning remains in effect from 10 am Friday to 4 PM PST
Saturday...

* winds... southwest to west winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts to 25
kt... increasing to 25 to 30 kt with gusts to 35 kt Friday
through Saturday.

* Waves/seas... combined seas 7 to 12 feet building to 12 to 18
feet Friday through Saturday.

* Outlook... another period of gale force winds possible Sunday
through Monday night.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Gale Warning means winds of 34 to 47 knots are imminent or
occurring. Operating a vessel in gale conditions requires
experience and properly equipped vessels. It is highly
recommended that mariners without the proper experience seek safe
Harbor prior to the onset of gale conditions.

A Small Craft Advisory means that wind speeds of 21 to 33 knots
and combined seas of 10 feet or greater are expected to produce
hazardous wave conditions to small craft. Inexperienced
mariners... especially those operating smaller vessels should
avoid navigating in these conditions.
