... Blizzard Warning in effect from 6 PM this evening to 6 am MST
Tuesday above 10000 feet...

The National Weather Service in Grand Junction has issued a
Blizzard Warning above 10000 feet... which is in effect from 6 PM
this evening to 6 am MST Tuesday.

* Locations in the Winter Storm Warning include the cities
of... Ouray... Telluride... Lake City... Silverton... Rico... Hesperus.

* Timing... heavy snow and blowing snow are expected tonight.
Thundersnow will be possible during the evening. Snow continues
through Tuesday afternoon.

* Snow accumulation... 8 to 12 inches of additional snowfall... with
2 to 4 feet storm total snowfall. Drifts in excess of 6 ft will
be possible. The heaviest snowfall shifts from the southwest
slopes early this evening to the northwest slopes by Tuesday.

* Winds... southwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph tonight
with the strongest winds from mid evening until midnight.

* Visibility... above 10000 feet tonight... below one quarter mile
at times in whiteout conditions. Otherwise reduced visibility at
times in snow and blowing snow.

* Impacts... travel is expected to be difficult or impossible
tonight with difficult travel through early Wednesday.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow are
expected or occurring. Strong winds and blowing snow are also
possible. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible.

A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout
conditions... making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If
you must travel... have a winter survival kit with you. If you get
stranded... stay with your vehicle.






Avalanche Warning

... Avalanche warning extended for the southern San Juan and northern
San Juan Mountains, the Ruby Range, and the West Elk Mountains...

Another foot of snow along with strong wind is expected overnight.
This will keep the avalanche danger elevated through tomorrow
morning. Natural and human triggered avalanches remain likely on all
steep slopes.

Backcountry travel into or below avalanche terrain is not
recommended at this time.

periods of heavy snowfall and increasing winds are forecast for the
next couple days. Natural and human triggered avalanches are likely
on all steep slopes today.

Backcountry travel into or below avalanche terrain is not
recommended at this time.
