... Significant snow possible for the southern mountains on Friday
and Saturday...

A moist and relatively warm weather system will bring a mixture of
rain and snow to southeast Utah and southwest Colorado Friday and
Saturday. In the high country... this will mean snow with possible
significant accumulations. Snow amounts of 4 to 8 inches above
8000 feet are anticipated with amounts up to 12 inches possible
above 9000 feet.

The snow level is expected to fluctuate between daytime and
nighttime. The snow level may start out at 6000 feet Friday
morning... but is expected to rise between 8000 to 9000 feet during
the day. On Friday night and Saturday morning... the snow level
will lower to between 6000 to 7000 feet.

For the lower elevations below 6000 feet... rain is likely for the
valleys of southwest Colorado and southeast Utah on Friday. Rain
amounts may range from a quarter to one half inch of precipitation.

Be aware of winter weather returning this weekend over the higher
elevations of the southern mountains. Heavy wet snow could fall
and may impact travel over the passes.

will lower to between 6000 to 7000 feet.

... Additional record high temperatures Tuesday...

In western Colorado,

At Cortez, the high temperature Tuesday was 59 degrees. This sets a
new record high for January 27, breaking the previous record of 58
set in 2003.

At 4 miles southwest of Craig, the high was 47. This sets a new
record high for the day, breaking the previous record of 45, set in
2002.

At 1 mile southwest of Paonia, the high was 59, setting a new record
high, breaking the previous record of 56, set in 2003.

At Steamboat Springs, the high was 49, setting a new record high,
breaking the previous record of 45, set in 1981.


In eastern Utah,

At Hovenweep National Monument, the high was 58, setting a new
record high, breaking the previous record of 56, set in 2002.
