Flood Warning

The Flood Warning continues for
the Connecticut River at Hartford
* until Saturday evening... or until the warning is cancelled.
* At 9:46 PM Friday the stage was 16.5 feet.
* Flood stage is 16.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the river will fall below flood stage by early afternoon
Saturday.
* Impact... at 16.0 feet... minor flooding is expected in several low
lying areas outside levee protection in Hartford, as well as
downstream through Wethersfield and Glastonbury. Further downstream
flooding is likely in the vicinity of Meadow Road, Route 17a, in
the Gildersleeve section of Portland. A portion of this roadway
will likely be closed. This includes the exchange club of Portland
Fairgrounds. Boating interests should prepare for a period of swift
river flows during this period.

Saturday evening for interior Massachusetts... northern Connecticut
and northwest Rhode Island...

The National Weather Service in Taunton has issued a Fire Weather
Watch... which is in effect from Saturday afternoon through
Saturday evening.

* Affected area... Hartford CT... Tolland CT and Windham CT.
Western Franklin MA... eastern Franklin MA... northern Worcester
MA... central Middlesex MA... western Hampshire MA... western
Hampden MA... eastern Hampshire MA... eastern Hampden MA...
southern Worcester MA and northern Middlesex MA. Northwest
Providence RI.

* Winds... west 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.

* Timing... noon to 8 PM Saturday. The strongest winds and lowest
relative humidities will occur during mid to late afternoon.

* Relative humidity... as low as 23 percent.

* Temperatures... mid 60s to lower 70s.

* Impacts... dry weather and gusty winds will result in critical
fire weather conditions.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions
are forecast to occur. Listen for later forecasts and possible
red flag warnings. Any fires that start may spread rapidly and
become difficult to extinguish.

and warm temperatures for east central New York... Berkshire County
in western Massachusetts... Litchfield County in northwest
Connecticut and Bennington and eastern Windham counties in
southern Vermont...

* affected area... east central New York... Berkshire County in
western Massachusetts... Litchfield County in northwest
Connecticut and Bennington and eastern Windham counties in
southern Vermont.

* Winds... northwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts 35 to 45 mph.

* Timing... 12 PM to 8 PM Saturday.

* Relative humidity... ranging from the upper teens to upper 20s.

* Temperatures... ranging from the upper 50s to low 70s.

* Impacts... fires may spread rapidly and uncontrollably.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Fire Weather Watch means that dangerous fire weather conditions
are possible to the combination of gusty winds... low relative
humidities... and dry fuels. Any fires that develop may quickly
get out of control and become difficult to contain.
