Subject discontinue of river flood forecast service for
the Cedar River at Osage Iowa October 1 2017

Effective October 1, 2017 the National Weather Service (nws) will
discontinue the provision of river flood forecasts for the Cedar
River at Osage Iowa.

Due to reductions in government funding, some river monitoring
equipment in Iowa is being shut down, including this site at Osage.

The gauge equipment is owned and operated by the U.S. Geological
survey (usgs), water science center in Fort Dodge Iowa.

The loss of river monitoring equipment will make it impractical to
continue providing forecasts. The National Weather Service will
continue to provide river flood forecasts for Charles City Iowa and
areal flood warnings for larger portions of the area when needed.
