Avalanche Warning

Statement as of 11:18 PM MST on December 20, 2014

The following message is transmitted at the request of the
Payette National Forest avalanche center... McCall Idaho.

... The Payette National Forest avalanche center in McCall Idaho
has issued a backcountry avalanche warning...

* timing... in effect 5 am MST Dec 21 until 5 am MST Dec 22.

* Location... in the west central Idaho mountains near McCall and
Cascade... including the Deadwood Summit area.

* Avalanche danger... the avalanche danger scale in the west
central Idaho mountains... including the Payette National Forest...
is widespread and has been elevated to high.

* Reason... heavy snowfall... buried weak layers in the snowpack,
wind... warming temperatures... and the potential for rain in the
mountains will produce high avalanche danger.

Precaution/preparedness actions...

Natural and human triggered avalanches are likely. Avoid travel
in avalanche terrain. Backcountry skiers... snowboarders...
snowmobilers and other users should be aware of sloping terrain
and avoid avalanche path runout areas. Use extreme caution.

Avalanche conditions may exist... but not be reported... in
locations outside the coverage area of any avalanche center.
Check www.Avalanche.Org for your closest avalanche center and
check www.Fsavalanche.Org to learn more about how to identify
avalanche problems. Watch for changing conditions including
recent avalanches... heavy snowfall or rain... strong wind or
rapidly warming temperatures.

Additional information...

This warning does not apply to controlled ski areas or Highway
operations.

Another statement will be issued by 5 am Monday Dec 22 unless
conditions require an earlier update.
