The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
Crawford County in east central Illinois...
Jasper County in southeastern Illinois...

* until 200 PM CDT Saturday

* at 755 am CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Up to two inches of rain have
already fallen. Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Robinson, Newton, Oblong, Palestine, Hutsonville, Flat Rock, ste.
Marie, Willow Hill, Wheeler, Hidalgo, New Hebron, Annapolis,
Hardinville, West Liberty, Eaton, Bogota, Hunt City, Merom, Stoy
and Yale.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying
spots.

The Flood Warning continues for
the Embarras River at ste. Marie.
* From Sunday evening until Saturday may 06.
* At 345 am Saturday the stage was 9.2 feet.
* Flood stage is 19.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by tomorrow evening and continue
to rise to near 23.0 feet by Tuesday evening.The river will fall
below flood stage by Saturday morning.
* Impact... at 21.0 feet... water overtops a few private levees in the
ste. Marie area.

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of central Illinois, east central Illinois, and
southeast Illinois, including the following areas, in central
Illinois, Christian, De Witt, Logan, Macon, McLean, Menard,
Piatt, Sangamon, and Shelby. In east central Illinois,
Champaign, Clark, Coles, Cumberland, Douglas, Edgar, Moultrie,
and Vermilion. In southeast Illinois, Clay, Crawford,
Effingham, Jasper, Lawrence, and Richland.

* Through Monday morning

* periods of heavy rainfall are expected over the weekend. By
Monday morning, a large area of 4 to 5 inches of rain is
expected between the Illinois River and the Indiana border.
Between the I-57 corridor and the Indiana border, 4.5 to 5
inches are expected. At the current time... the heaviest periods
of rain are expected Saturday afternoon into early Sunday as
well as another period Sunday night.

* In addition to potential flooding of streets and roads in
flood prone areas, area rivers and streams are also likely to
experience flooding. This would persist for several days after
the rain ends.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
