Essex County in northeastern Massachusetts...

* until 1015 am EDT

* at 719 am EDT... heavy rain was ccurring with flash flooding is
occurring across portions of the North Shore and Merrimack valley
of Massachusetts. Several area roadways will be covered with
water through the commute.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Lowell... Lynn... Lawrence... Haverhill... Peabody... Methuen... Salem...
Billerica... Beverly... Woburn... Chelmsford... Andover... Dracut...
Tewksbury... Gloucester... North Andover... Saugus... Danvers...
Wakefield... reading... Wilmington... Stoneham... Marblehead...
and North Reading.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Rapid and potentially life threatening flooding of streets and
underpasses is imminent. Do not drive through flooded roads and find
alternate routes.

Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Turn around... dont drown.

A Flash Flood Warning is issued for rapid and potentially life
threatening flooding. In urban areas avoid flooded roads and obey
Road closures. Those near small streams must head for higher ground

* at 556 am EDT... Doppler radar indicated heavy rain across the
warned area. Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Lynn... Malden... Revere... Peabody... Salem... Beverly... Woburn... North
Andover... Melrose... Saugus... Danvers... Wakefield... reading.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

minor Urban and Small Stream flooding. Overflowing poor drainage
areas will result in minor flooding in the advisory area. Also
the old swamp river at South Weymouth is approaching minor flood
stage and may briefly spill over.

The Flood Watch continues for

* most of eastern Massachusetts into southeast New Hampshire. This
includes the cities and towns of Framingham... Lowell... Lawrence...
Gloucester... Foxboro... Norwood... Cambridge... Boston... Quincy...
Taunton... Brockton... Plymouth... Fall River... New Bedford...
Mattapoisett... Chatham... Falmouth... Provincetown... Ayer...
Manchester... Nashua... Peterborough and Weare.

* Until 11 am EDT this morning

* periods of heavy rain with embedded thunderstorms will continue
this morning... then becoming more showery and less intense this afternoon.

* Rainfall rates of up to 1 inch per hour will occur at times and
may result in urban/poor drainage and small stream flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.

... High Wind Warning is cancelled...

The National Weather Service in Taunton has issued a Wind
Advisory... which is in effect until 11 PM EDT this evening. The
High Wind Warning has been cancelled.

* Location... southeast Middlesex... Suffolk MA... eastern Norfolk
and eastern Plymouth counties of Massachusetts. This includes
the cities and towns of Cambridge... Boston... Quincy and
Plymouth.

* Winds... north 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.

* Timing... strongest winds will occur heavy rain squalls and
isolated thunderstorms through 11 am.

* Impacts... these strong winds may result in some downed tree
limbs and even isolated power outages. The heavy rain combined
with many fully leafed trees will likely exacerbate the
potential for downed tree limbs.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Advisory is issued when sustained winds are forecast to be
31 to 39 mph or gusts will range between 46 and 57 mph. Winds
this strong are capable of Downing small tree limbs and
branches... possibly causing isolated power outages. Driving can
also be difficult... especially for high profile vehicles.
