The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids has issued a

* Flood Advisory for minor flooding in poor drainage areas for...
eastern Eaton County in south central Michigan...
Ingham County in south central Michigan...

* until 700 PM EDT

* at 457 PM EDT... Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause minor flooding. Overflowing poor
drainage areas will result in minor flooding in the advisory area.
A few Road closures reported in the Lansing area.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause ponding of water in
urban areas... highways... streets and underpasses as well as other
poor drainage areas and low lying spots. Do not attempt to travel
across flooded roads. Find alternate routes.

At 509 PM EDT... Doppler radar was tracking a line of strong
thunderstorms along a line extending from near Marion Springs to 8
miles southwest of Carson City... and moving south at 20 mph.

Wind gusts at least 40 mph with some downed tree limbs will be
possible with these storms.

Lansing... Ionia... St. Johns...
Portland... Waverly... Haslett...
East Lansing... Grand Ledge... Carson City...
Elsie... Edgemont Park... DeWitt...
Eureka... Crystal... Ovid...

between 500 PM and 630 PM. These storms are expected to move to the
southeast at 30 mph and mainly affect Eaton Ingham and Jackson
counties.

The following threats will be possible when these storms arrive...
wind gusts at least 40 mph with some downed tree limbs... frequent
deadly cloud to ground lightning... very heavy downpours and nuisance
flooding...

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

If thunder roars... go indoors. Allow 30 minutes of time before
resuming outdoor activities. Please report any observed damage to
your local law enforcement.
