Areal Flood Warning

Statement as of 11:38 AM MDT on August 23, 2014

Expires 10:20 PM EDT on August 26, 2014

The National Weather Service in Glasgow has issued a

* Flood Warning for small streams in...
Petroleum County in northeast Montana...
Phillips County in northeast Montana...
southwestern Valley County in northeast Montana...
western Garfield County in northeast Montana...

* until 1130 am MDT Tuesday.

* As of 1133 am MDT rain the past 48 hours have brought from 1 to 2
inches of rainfall to the region. The forecast brings an additional
2 to 3.25 inches of rainfall to the area through Sunday night. The
heaviest amounts will be in and around the western end of Fort Peck
Lake and the Charles M Russell wildlife Refuge. Ditches will fill up
and flow across fields and roads. Small streams will eventually
fill up and overflow their banks. Although the rainfall will end
Sunday night it takes longer to drain out the small streams and the
flooding will last into early next week. Travel on gravel roads will
be treacherous and should be avoided.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported.
Stream rises will be slow and flash flooding is not expected.
However... all interested parties should take necessary precautions
immediately.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.
