Coastal Hazard Statement, Coastal Flood Warning

Statement as of 4:02 PM EDT on September 29, 2016

Expires 1:00 AM EDT on September 30, 2016

... High rip current risk now in effect through Friday afternoon...
... Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 1 am EDT
Friday...

* location... the central and southern New Jersey shore and
Delaware beaches.

* Coastal flooding... minor coastal flooding occurred this
morning along the central and southern New Jersey coasts and
the Delaware coast. Tidal inundation flooding will occur again
tonight and probably be half a foot to a foot deeper than what
occurred this morning... leading to moderate coastal flooding
with this evenings high tide cycle. Easterly winds will whip
waves of 5 to 9 feet onto the shore as well.

* Risk of rip currents... there is a high risk of dangerous rip
currents through tonight.

* Timing... the oceanfront coastal flooding is expected with the
high tide between 7 and 9 PM. High tide on the Bay Side may
occur up to 3 hours later. The high risk of rip currents will
continue through this evening.

* Impacts... roadway flooding is expected near the time of high
tide.

* Surge... tides will be around 2 to 2.5 feet above astronomical
tides. Heavy rain at the time of high tides could exacerbate
coastal flooding... leading to total water levels even higher.

* Waves... 5 to 9 feet.

* Outlook... at least minor tidal inundation flooding is
anticipated with the Friday morning high tide cycle... and
possibly again Friday evening.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A coastal Flood Warning means that flooding is occurring or
imminent. Coastal residents in the warned area should be alert
for rising water... and take appropriate action to protect life
and property.

Do not leave your vehicle at a location that is prone to tidal
flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flood waters. The
water may be deeper than you think it is. You will be putting
yourself in danger and your vehicle may be damaged... leading to
costly repairs.

There is a high risk of rip currents. A high risk of rip currents
implies that wind and/or wave conditions will support the
development of very strong rip currents. These rip currents will
be life threatening to anyone who enters the surf.

Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore... which occur most often at low spots or breaks in The
Sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as groins...
jetties and piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards... beach patrol
flags and signs.

If you become caught in a rip current... Yell for help. Remain
calm... do not exhaust yourself and stay afloat while waiting for
help. If you have to swim out of a rip current... swim parallel to
shore and back toward the beach when possible. Do not attempt to
swim directly against a rip current as you will tire quickly.

Flash Flood Watch

Statement as of 3:01 PM EDT on September 29, 2016

Expires 4:00 PM EDT on September 30, 2016

... Flash Flood Watch in effect through Friday afternoon...

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has expanded the

* Flash Flood Watch to include portions of southern New Jersey
and southeast Pennsylvania... including the following areas...
in southern New Jersey... Atlantic... Atlantic coastal Cape
May... Camden... Cape May... coastal Atlantic... coastal ocean...
Cumberland... Gloucester... northwestern Burlington... ocean...
Salem and southeastern Burlington. In southeast Pennsylvania...
   Delaware and Philadelphia.

* heavy rainfall associated with low pressure will affect the area
through Friday. The heaviest rains will taper off after daybreak
Friday. Widespread 2 to 4 inch rain totals are possible with
isolated amounts around 6 inches possible near the coastal
areas. These rainfall totals are capable of producing flooding
across the watch area.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.

Wind Advisory

Statement as of 2:45 PM EDT on September 29, 2016

Expires 6:00 AM EDT on September 30, 2016

... Wind Advisory in effect until 6 am EDT Friday...

Advisory... which is in effect until 6 am EDT Friday.

* Locations... Sussex County Delaware and coastal sections of central
and southern New Jersey.

* Winds... northeast 15 to 25 mph with scattered gusts of 45 to 50
mph.

* Timing... in progress with strongest wind gusts tonight.

* Impacts... small tree limbs may break causing a few power outages.
High profile vehicles will be subject to unexpected and
uncontrolled movement in strong gusts.

* Outlook... northeast winds will diminish Friday morning.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Advisory means that very windy conditions are expected.
Winds this strong can make driving difficult... especially for
