Flash Flood Warning

... A Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 445 PM MDT for east
central Santa Fe County...

At 257 PM MDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar continued to
indicate a thunderstorm producing very heavy rain 4 miles south of
Glorieta... or about 14 miles southeast of Santa Fe. The storm
producing very heavy rain was drifting towards the south/southwest.
County highways 326/612 and 51 will be impacted. Most of the water
will flow into the following arroyos... San Cristobal and jaspe.
These arroyos flow under State Highway 285. Several smaller drainages
lead off the Glorieta Mesa towards the west and east and are expected
to be running full.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Arroyos... streams and rivers can become raging killer currents in a
matter of minutes. Know where higher ground is located.

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued an

* Arroyo and Small Stream Flood Advisory for...
northwestern Rio Arriba County in north central New Mexico
extreme northeastern San Juan County in northwest New Mexico

* until 600 PM MDT

* at 407 PM MDT National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
heavy rain from a storm traveling between the Colorado state line
and Navajo Dam. Expect between 1 to 1.25 inches of rainfall within
this area.

* Strong flows and high water levels are expected in arroyos... small
streams and over low water crossings. Rapid runoff can also be
expected immediately over and downstream from wildfire burn scars.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Both localized and distant heavy rainfall will create dangerous flows
in arroyos and over low water crossings. Do not attempt to drive
through these waters. Water in arroyos may travel many miles and take
hours to reach your location from upstream rain areas.

southeastern Sandoval County in north central New Mexico
west central Santa Fe County in north central New Mexico

* until 545 PM MDT

* at 338 PM MDT National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
heavy rain from a cluster of storms between Madrid to San Felipe
casino. The storms will be slow to move and create rainfall
amounts between 0.75 to 1.25 inches. State highways 14 and 57a
will be impacted. Normally dry arroyos such as Coyote and largo
will fill up and flow towards Interstate 25.

* Strong flows and high water levels are expected in arroyos... small
streams and over low water crossings. Rapid runoff can also be
expected immediately over and downstream from wildfire burn scars.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Both localized and distant heavy rainfall will create dangerous flows
in arroyos and over low water crossings. Do not attempt to drive
through these waters. Water in arroyos may travel many miles and take
hours to reach your location from upstream rain areas.

* at 239 PM MDT National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
heavy rain near and south of Glorietta. Expect between 0.75
to 1.25 inches with this area. Interstate 25 will most likely
be impacted by ponding of water.

* Strong flows and high water levels are expected in arroyos... small
streams and over low water crossings. Rapid runoff can also be
expected immediately over and downstream from wildfire burn scars.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Remember... ditches are deadly. A gentle flow of water can become a
raging torrent in a matter of minutes.

* Through late tonight

* abundant moisture is in place over much of northern and central
New Mexico... and a weak disturbance aloft will be entering
northern parts of the state later today. In addition... storms
are expected to move very slowly today and tonight... and this
scenario will lead to a heightened risk for flash flooding. With
abundant moisture in place some of the stronger storms will
likely produce torrential downpours with rain at rates near 1
inch in just a half hour.

* Locations where the ground is already saturated from recent
rainfall will be favored for flash flooding. Other vulnerable
locations will include steep terrain... urban areas and burn
scars. Keep a watchful eye on arroyos and small streams... and
stay out of flooded low water crossings. Monitor the latest
forecasts closely and be prepared to take immediate action if a
warning or advisory is issued.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to
flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
Monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash
flood warnings be issued.
