Areal Flood Advisory

Statement as of 12:46 AM MDT on August 01, 2014

Expires 6:45 AM EDT on August 01, 2014

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued an

* Arroyo and Small Stream Flood Advisory for...
Lincoln County in central New Mexico

* until 445 am MDT

* at 1241 am MDT National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
a large area of moderate to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms
moving slowly east southeast across Lincoln County. Radar and
surface observations indicated between one half inch and three
quarters of an inch of rain has already fallen in some areas in
the past 1 hour... with an additional 1 to 1.5 inches possible...
especially in high terrain areas. This will impact drainages
from Ruidoso... Alto... Bonito... Nogal... and Capitan eastward...
as well as areas around Ancho... Jicarilla... and Encinoso.

This will also impact the Little Bear burn scar including but not
limited to Highway 70 from Biscuit Hill to Riverside or from mile
posts 267 to 300... and Highway 48 from Ruidoso to escudilla ranch
or from mile posts 0 to 17. Of particular concern will be Highway
48 at ski run Road... Eagle Creek... intersection of Highway 37 and
48... Rio Bonito... and escudilla... magado creek.

Even moderate rainfall in upstream watersheds will result in rapid
and potentially dangerous flows along the Rio Ruidoso... Eagle
Creek... Little Creek... magado creek... Rio Bonito and the Rio Hondo
from the Highway 70 and 380 Junction to Riverside. Please contact
local authorities for evacuation procedures and routes.

This will also impact the white fire burn scar as well as Ruidoso
Downs... Highway 70 and Rio Ruidoso.

* Strong flows and high water levels are expected in arroyos... small
streams and over low water crossings. Rapid runoff can also be
expected immediately over and downstream from wildfire burn scars.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to tell how much
water is on the Road... do not drive through fast moving water of
unknown depth.

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely.
