Excessive Heat Warning

Statement as of 3:10 AM MDT on June 25, 2017


... Excessive heat warning remains in effect until 9 PM PDT /9 PM
MST/ Monday...

* temperature... the prolonged period of excessive heat will
persist into Monday then temperatures will trend downward to
near normal the rest of the coming week. Until Monday, the
following high temperatures can be expected: 109-113 for the Las
Vegas Valley and other Lower Desert areas, 122-126 for Death
Valley and 111-121 along the Colorado River valley.

* Impacts... a prolonged period of intense heat will create a
dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are likely;
especially for the elderly, children, homeless, those
unaccustomed to the heat, and those that do not take proper
precautions.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Drink plenty of fluids... stay in an air-conditioned room... stay
out of the sun... and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions... if you work or spend time outside. When
possible... reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when
possible and drink plenty of water.

To reduce risk during outdoor work... the occupational safety and
health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks
in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by
heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke
is an emergency... call 9 1 1.

Young children and pets should never be left unattended in
vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during
warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal
temperatures in a matter of minutes.




Fire Weather Warning

Statement as of 4:28 AM MDT on June 25, 2017


... Red flag warning in effect from noon PDT /noon MST/ to 9 PM
PDT /9 PM MST/ Monday for strong winds and low rh for fire
weather zones 101, 102, 461, 463, 464, 465, and 466...

The National Weather Service in Las Vegas has issued a red flag
warning, which is in effect from noon PDT /noon MST/ to 9 PM PDT
/9 PM MST/ Monday.

* Affected area... in Arizona... fire weather zones 101 and 102.In
Nevada... fire weather zones 461, 463, 464, 465, and 466.

* Timing... winds will increase significantly by noon Monday and
will peak in the mid to late afternoon hours then gradually
decrease Monday evening.

* Wind... south to southwest with sustained speeds of 15 to 25 mph
and gusts over 35 mph.

* Humidity... minimum relative humidity values of 4 to 8 percent
can be expected Monday afternoon for most sites.

* Impacts... a red flag warning means that critical fire weather
conditions are expected. Any fires that develop will likely
spread rapidly. A combination of strong winds... low relative
humidity... and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire
behavior.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Outdoor burning is not recommended. Heed all fire restrictions and
use extra caution with any ignition sources.
