... Medford Oregon weather review: March 2015...

March 2015 began on a cooler note compared to the few weeks of warm
weather during February. Although it likely felt chilly to most,
average temperatures were only a few degrees below normal for early
March. An upper level ridge moved in over the area after this cool
down, resulting in warm, quiet weather with average temperatures
running about 5 to 10 degrees above normal. The synoptic pattern
became more active around the middle of the month, allowing a few
warm systems to move through. One system brought record breaking
rainfall to the Medford area. 0.74 inches of rain fell on the 14th,
breaking the old record of 0.37 inches set in 1980. Towards the end
of March, a colder system moved through the area, dropping snow
levels and delivering some much needed mountain snow. After this
system, a relatively short lived ridge built in over the area for
the last week of March, warming up temperatures to 10 to 15 degrees
above normal. Numerous sites around the area saw record breaking
high temperatures for a few consecutive days during this time. On
the 26th, Medford tied the high temperature record of 80 degrees set
in 1923. As March came to an end, the active pattern resumed and
temperatures cooled back down to normal values.

The average temperature for March was 53.3 degrees, which is 5.0
degrees above normal. The average maximum temperature was 66.3
degrees, which is 6.8 degrees above normal. The average minimum
temperature was 40.4 degrees, which is 3.3 degrees above normal. The
highest temperature for the month was 80 degrees on the 26th. The
lowest temperature of the month was 27 degrees on the 1st.

There were 18 clear days, 7 partly cloudy days, and 6 cloudy days.

Total precipitation was 1.45 inches which is 0.26 inches below
normal. The greatest 24 hour total was 0.74 inches that fell on the
14th. The water year began October 1st and is currently 12.75 inches
which is 1.04 inches below normal. Calendar year precipitation is
5.90 inches which is 0.25 inches below normal.

The average wind for the month was 2.8 mph. The fastest recorded two-
minute wind was 22 mph from the northwest on the 27th and 31st. The
peak wind was 30 mph from the west on the 27th.

The highest pressure for the month was 30.43 inches on the 28th. The
lowest pressure for the month was 29.83 inches on the 15th.

Records set during the month:

*record high temperature of 80 degrees tied the old record of 80
degrees set in 1923.
*Precipitation record of 0.74 inches set on the 17th breaking the
old record of 0.37 inches set in 1980.
