Flood Warning, Flash Flood Warning

the National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio has issued a

* Flood Warning for
the Llano river at Llano.
* From this evening to Wednesday morning... or until the warning is cancelled.
* At 2:00 PM Tuesday the stage was 4.9 feet.
* Flood stage is 10.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by this evening and continue to rise to near
11.1 feet by this evening.The river will fall below flood stage by tonight.
* Impact... at 12.0 feet... moderate lowland flooding makes secondary roads and
low bridges in the flood plain dangerous to motorists. Equipment should be
moved from low docks and boat ties loosened downstream in Kingsland..

... The Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 300 PM CDT for
northern Llano County...

At 105 PM CDT... Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Up to 2.5 inches of rain have
already fallen 14 miles northwest of Llano. Flash flooding is
expected to begin shortly.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Llano... Buchanan Dam... Field Creek... Bluffton... Valley Spring... Stolz...
Castell... Tow... Lone Grove and Baby Head.

Additional rainfall amounts of up to one and one half inches are
possible in the warned area.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate Route.

Please report flooding to your local law enforcement agency when you
can do so safely.

* until 515 PM CDT

* at 213 PM CDT... Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause minor flooding in the advisory area.
Up to one and one half inches of rain has already fallen.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Boerne... Kingsland... Marble Falls... Burnet... blanco... Bertram... Round
Mountain... Buchanan Dam... Fair Oaks Ranch... Granite Shoals... Horseshoe

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around... don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams... country roads... farmland... and other low lying
spots.

* Flash Flood Watch for a portion of south central Texas...
including the following areas... Atascosa... Bandera... Bastrop...
   Bexar... blanco... Burnet... Caldwell... Comal... De Witt...
Dimmit... Edwards... Fayette... frio... Gillespie... Gonzales...
Guadalupe... Hays... Karnes... Kendall... Kerr... Kinney... Lavaca...
   Lee... Llano... Maverick... Medina... real... Travis... Uvalde...
Val Verde... Williamson... Wilson and Zavala.

* Through Thursday morning

* widespread rainfall totals of 3 to 6 inches with some locations
reaching as high as 10 inches. Also... very saturated soils will
further enhance the possibility for flash flooding and increase
the likelihood of rapid flooding.

* Rivers and creeks are swollen and any additional rainfall will
worsen the conditions. Soils are extremely saturated and any
additional rains will likely result in rapid run off and
accumulation of flood waters.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
