Public Information Statement

Statement as of 7:55 AM CDT on April 01, 2015

... March 2015 was much wetter than normal...

The month of March was much wetter than normal across all of
southeast Texas. In turn... the rainy periods during the month
helped bring about a month of near normal daily average
temperatures. The wet conditions reversed the results of a very
dry February and raised most year-to-date rainfall at the climate
sites to at or above normal.

Rainfall for March at the first-order climate sites actually
ranked in the top 15 wettest months on record. Hobby Airport
ranked 7th... the city of Galveston 8th... College Station 11th...
and the city of Houston ranked 13th. The following table lists
the top 15 wettest months of March on record for each first-order
climate site.

The rainfall reversed a trend that has seen most of the past 15
months see below normal rainfall. Still... the city of Houston
has now only had four months out of 15 with above normal
precipitation... while College Station... hobby Airport... and
Galveston have only had five months with above normal rainfall
during the same 15 month span. For this year... all of the first-
and second-order climate sites received above normal rainfall in
March. Of the 12 sites... 11 received in excess of 2 inches above
normal... five recording more than 3... two more than 4... and one
with greater than 6 inches above normal! The following table gives
the rainfall with the deficits for the first three months of 2015.
