Areal Flood Warning

The National Weather Service in Riverton has issued a

* Flood Warning for...
northeastern Johnson County in north central Wyoming...

* until 130 PM MDT Tuesday

* at 121 PM MDT... emergency management reported flooding across
the warned area. The Powder River at Sussex reached a record flood
crest of 15.5 feet this morning. The flood waters will continue
to move north flooding fields along the Powder River through
Tuesday. An area of concern is the bridge over the Powder River on
Interstate 90. With past flooding in 2014 on the Powder River in
this area... parts of Interstate 90 were flooded at the bridge.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include... i90 exit
88... i90 Exit 91 and Powder River rest area.

This includes Interstate 90 in Wyoming between mile markers 86 and
92.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely.

* Flood Warning continues for
the Powder River at Sussex
* river crested at at record stage of 15.63 feet early Monday
morning. This breaks the prevoius record of 15.16 feet set in 1978.
* The river will steadily recede and fall below flood stage by
Tuesday afternoon.

* impact... at 15.2 feet... record stage---(5/19/1978)..
* impact... at 12.6 feet... record flow---32,500 cfs (5/23/1952)..
* impact... at 12.0 feet... water along low spots of Highway 192 along
right and left banks. Widespread flooding of agricultural land
along right bank..
* impact... at 11.0 feet... flood stage. Minor flooding of agricultural
land along right bank..
* flood history... this crest compares to a preivious crest of 15.2
feet on may 19 1978.

The National Weather Service in Riverton has issued a

* Flood Warning for...
south central Johnson County in north central Wyoming...

* until 800 PM MDT Monday

* at 800 PM MDT... emergency management reported flooding across the
warned area. Flooding was occurring in Barnum and Kaycee along
the Middle Fork of the Powder River. The Middle Fork of the
Powder River at Kaycee was at 8.9 feet or nearly two feet above
flood stage. Flood state is 7.0 feet. The river crested at 9.5
feet at 5 PM.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include... Kaycee...
Fort Reno historical site... i25 exit 246... i25 exit 249...
Mayoworth... state Hwy 191 mile marker 10 and state Hwy 192 mile
marker 10.

This includes Interstate 25 in Wyoming between mile markers 245 and
264.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Additional rainfall amounts of one-quarter to one-half inch are
possible in the warned area tonight.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. If flash flooding is observed act quickly. Do
not enter the water. Turn around and move up to higher ground to
escape flood waters. Do not stay in areas subject to flooding when
water begins rising.

... Record daily maximum rainfall set at Riverton on Sunday...

A wet Spring storm produced areas of precipitation across central
and northern Wyoming this weekend and set a new daily rainfall
record of 1.06 inches at the Riverton Regional Airport yesterday.
This breaks the old record of 0.48 that was set back in 2009.
Note... records for this site began in 1996.
